Cookbook Review: Sprinkles! Recipes and Ideas for Rainbowlicious Desserts, Homemade Gingersnap Cookie Butter AND a GIVEAWAY!

When Quirk Books contacted me and asked if I was interested in reviewing the cookbook, Sprinkles! Recipes and Ideas for Rainbowlicious Desserts I couldn't imagine how there could be an entire cookbook devoted to sprinkles!  I mean...sprinkles?  Sure they are fun and whimsical...but a whole book??

Boy was I surprised when the book arrived.  (Disclaimer: I received this cookbook for free to review from the publisher.  The thoughts and opinions expressed in this post are entirely mine and I have not received payment for them.)

Sprinkles!  Recipes and Ideas for Rainbowlicious Desserts by Jackie Alpers is a delightful paperback book with 144 pages of wonderful recipes and recipe ideas, as well as a tutorial on sprinkles themselves.  I mean, who knew there was a "World of Sprinkles", each kind with their own "personality" out there!?  Jackie even shows you how to make your own sprinkles in this book!  How fun is that??

Soft Pumpkin Oatmeal Cookies

It's a dreary day here in NE Ohio today.  After a week of stellar temps and wall to wall sunshine, I'm afraid changes are in the air.  It's ok though, because it happens to be the perfect day to make these lovely gems!

Curried Pumpkin and Yellow Split Pea Soup

Curried Pumpkin and Yellow Split Pea Soup | by Renee's Kitchen Adventures

I used to not be that big of a fan of soup...but it seems anymore, as soon as the weather turns chilly...I WANT to make soup.  It could be that homemade soup is so good for you OR it could be that I just LOVE my enameled cast iron dutch oven that I make the soup in!!

Babybel® Mozzarella Mini Caprese Skewers

I've blogged about the yumminess of The Laughing Cow's Mini Babybel® Mozzarella Style reduced fat semi-soft cheese before. And I am once again, shouting out how wonderful I think this product is.

Pork Chops with Brandied Apples and Onions

Pork Chops with Brandied Apples and Onions | Renee's Kitchen Adventures - Healthy recipe for a quick pork dinner!

To me, there is nothing that says Autumn more than Pork and Apples.  Serve them over some creamy mashed potatoes and you've got some ultimate comfort food.

I've mentioned in the past that my husband is so NOT a fan of anything sweet combined with his meat.  My son and I like that flavor profile now and again.  So when I prepared this recipe, I went with the Gala apple variety.  It's a firm apple with a slight tart taste.  Not as tart as granny smith, but not anywhere as sweet as honeycrisp.  It turned out to be the perfect apple choice for this dish for my family, as the apple-onion mixture was just slightly sweet, but really more savory.  The husband had no complaints.
