What is round steak?

Round is a cut of beef from the rear leg of the cow. Round is categorized into cuts including Eye of Round, Bottom Round, and Top Round. A London Broil is a Top Round steak or roast, depending on its thickness. You'll find most Top Round Steaks, cut for London Broil are about 2 inches thick.

It is a lean and economical cut of beef and is perfectly suited for marinating and then broiling or grilling. Because it's so lean, London Broil is best cooked to medium rare doneness (to about 130 degrees F internal temperature) and sliced thinly against the grain.

I love cooking with round steaks, because they are good for my waistline and good for my wallet! You get a nice lean protein packed meal when you choose round steak. Killer London Broil is a fabulous round steak recipe you are going to love!

Easy London Broil Marinade

I love this easy London Broil marinade. Although 6 hours in the marinade will do, I prefer to let it marinade overnight for best flavor.  And full of flavor it is!

The original marinade recipe comes from the Hard Rock Cafe, and I think it is probably one of the best London Broil marinades I have found. The recipe book I grabbed it from is quite old, and I don't even think this is an option on their menu any longer, but this London Broil marinade is a real winner and worthy of never being retired.

Not only is this marinade great on London Broil, it's also wonderful on chicken and pork too!

Easy London Broil Recipe

Killer London Broil is an easy London Broil recipe. The hardest part about this recipe for London Broil is the timing. You do need to do a little planning ahead, for the marinade. Six hours is great, but overnight is even better. This marinade isn't very acidic, so there's no worry of letting it sit too long in the marinade and having the edges "cook" or the texture get mushy. With that said, for safety, I wouldn't recommend marinating it for more than overnight.

  5. That does look great! I am not much of a beef eater but I bought a premarinated piece of beef at Trader Joes the other day. Hubby grilled it up and we loved it! It was nice for a change. This recipe sounds so good and easy too. I like easy.

  8. Had an okay flavor, but not very intense. Prefer the flavor of the dry packaged marinade from McCormick (?)(if I can find it). This just needs SOMEthing: more soy sauce?? I used 3 packets of low-sodium beef bouillon- maybe that was the problem. Also used 1 Large clove of garlic, but no pepper because I don't like it. Marinated it overnight.

  10. Would it be possible to use beer rather than water in the Marinade Mix to get a somewhat different flavor?

  11. I made this for hubby and me and it's the BEST roast I've ever had. Just another on to marinade for company tomorrow. Only difference I did was put it in my Ninja Air fryer on the pressure cook method. Yummy AND fast!

  12. I only seasoned my london broil with salt and pepper and montreal steak seasoning. I used it to put in beef vegetable soup. I browned it in butter and olive oil then added it to the soup broth and cooked it for about 2 hrs. Then added my Soup Vegetables and cooked another 45 minutes. the london broil is super tender but has no flavor to it. What can I do to add flavor to the meat only.

    1. I wouldn't use this cut of meat (london broil - round) for soup. It's quite lean and this is why marinating it with the recipe above helps boost flavor. For soup, I would recommend using chuck. It will naturally have more flavor and you can cook it just as you mentioned above for your soup. Hope this helps.
