Birthday Cake Krispie Treats: Easy no-bake way to enjoy the popular flavor of birthday cake! #dessert #cookie

I like to make these rice krispie treats in an 8"x8" pan because I like them thick, but if you like your krispie treats less tall, you could make them in a 9"x13" pan instead.

The classic flavor of "birthday cake" in an easy to make rice krispie treat recipe adorned with white chocolate and sprinkles.

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1- 10.5 oz. package of mini marshmallows
  • 1/2 cup dry Funfetti® cake mix
  • 1/2 tsp. pure vanilla extract
  • 6 cups toasted rice cereal
  • 1/2 cup colored sprinkles, divided
  • 2 oz. white chocolate, melted ( I used Candiquick vanilla)

Instructions

  1. In large pan, melt butter. Add in marshmallows and allow to melt completely over med heat, stirring occasionally.
  2. Add in the cake mix and vanilla extract. Stir until fully incorporated into the marshmallow.
  3. Add the cereal and stir until coated. Add in 1/4 cup of sprinkles. Stir just until they are mixed in. Press mixture into a 8"x8" baking dish that has been sprayed with cooking spray. Press down with hands or silicon spatula that has been sprayed with cooking spray.
  4. Drizzle the top with the melted chocolate and then top with the remaining sprinkles.
  5. Put in refrigerator for about 30 minutes to allow the treats and chocolate to set up. Cut into 16 squares.

Notes

TIP: Make sure your marshmallows are fresh! Stale marshmallows will not melt well and you will end up with hard krispie treats.

  13. I can't figure out how I can follow a recipe to the letter yet still manage to mess it up. I made these today for a friends birthday and they turned out hard and dry. Not gooey or chewy at all. Perhaps I left it on the heat too long, or should've used a different method of measure for the cereal. So frustrating, they are super simple and adorable!

    1. Lora, I'm so sorry they didn't turn out for you. I had no issues with them being dry and hard. It could have been, as you said, the marshmallow mixture was left on the heat too long. I just had it on medium until they melted and no longer. :)
