It's September in Northeast Ohio and that means it's the beginning of apple season!

Although I am much more of a self proclaimed summer girl, I do like the Fall tradition of apple picking. There's just something so rewarding about visiting an apple orchard and picking your own fresh apples in the cool, crisp Fall air.

With an abundance of fresh apples on hand, I get excited about all the things I can make with fresh apples; this delicious Hatfield® Pork Loin Filet with Apples and Onions, Crock Pot Chunky Gingered Applesauce, Old Fashioned Fresh Apple Cake, and Apple Cinnamon Coffee Cake!

Apples and pork are natural partners! The sweetness of apples pairs perfectly with pork. This boneless pork loin recipe is like enjoying pork chops with applesauce...only better!

What is pork loin filet?

I did a bit of research, and found out that a pork loin filet is a pork loin cut into a smaller, more manageable portion.

Generally, you'll find pork loin cut into 2 to 3 pound roasts in your grocery store meat case. A pork loin filet is usually under 2 pounds.

Because pork loin is a lean cut of pork, pork loin filets are often marinated for tenderness and flavor.

Since pork loin filets are small, they cook more quickly than a 2 to 3 pound pork loin roast. This makes them convenient for quick and easy meals like this one.

I'm using a Hatfield® Marinated Pork Loin Filet for this recipe because it's easy to use and the marinade is simple (water, sea salt, and turbinado sugar), but still full of flavor.

A pork loin filet is NOT a pork tenderloin. Pork tenderloin and pork loin are cuts from two different parts of the hog. They do have similar properties though. They are both a lean pork choice.

How long to cook a pork loin filet?

You'll want to cook this pork loin filet to an internal temperature of 145 degrees F for best results. You can test the internal temperature with an instant read thermometer.

Cook time will vary according to the thickness of the pork loin filet, so it's always best to test the internal temperature for doneness. Remember, a touch of pink is perfectly fine!

How to cook pork loin filet on the stove top?

The recipe card below gives you directions for cooking this dish on the stove top and then finishing in the oven, but it also gives you directions for cooking the entire meal stove top.

Since Hatfield® Marinated Pork Loin Filets are smaller than a pork loin roast and marinated for tenderness, cooking them stove top is an option!

To make this recipe entirely on the stove top, follow the recipe card below to step #7. Leave pan on stove and turn heat down to simmer. Cook the pork mixture covered until pork reaches internal temperature of 145 degrees F. (This should take about 15 to 20 minutes, depending on the thickness of the pork loin filet).

The choice is yours. The recipe will come out great whatever way you decide to cook it.
